IRP error 2194: Line total does not match its values

What the IRP says

For Sl. No {0}, Total item value does not match with taxable and tax values of that item

{0}, {1} and so on stand for the values the IRP fills in. "Sl. No" is the serial number (SlNo) the line has in the file.

Why it happens, in NIC's words

Total item value passed is incorrect.

What NIC says to do

Total item value should be sum of assessable value, all tax and cess values, other charges with tolerance limit of +/- One. Please refer to the validations in the portal.

NIC's wording, from its published list of IRP errors, as read on 1 October 2026.

In plain words

On the line named in the error, the line total (TotItemVal) is not the sum of the line's taxable value, taxes, cess and other charges.

How to fix it

  1. The IRP's sum for a line is: taxable value, plus CGST, SGST and IGST, plus every cess amount, plus other charges.
  2. With reverse charge, or on an export with payment (EXPWP), NIC also accepts a line total that leaves out the tax.
  3. The IRP allows a small difference (about one to two rupees), not more.

Can you catch it before you upload?

Yes. The free pre-check on this site tests for it before you upload. It works out the same sum on each line, with NIC's tolerance and exceptions.
